What is AiRush?

AiRush is a $8m state of the art Vertical Wind Tunnel using cutting edge technology and designed specifically as a leisure and tourist attraction for people of all ages to experience the incredible sensation of “BodyFlight”, the same as that experienced by a skydiver in freefall. 

 

Why is this AiRush tunnel so special?

A NEW Experience
AiRush (built by SkyVenture) will be the most advanced wind tunnel in the world. We will have a 3 story (20ft) completely transparent flight chamber, giving you the sensation and perspective of flying in the street. (As apposed to a closed tube) This also allows your spectators to watch all of the action.

Powerful
It will have huge airspeeds of up to 170mph for Skydivers and teams to freefly

Quiet
The AiR will be cooled internally ensuring a comfortable environment and allowing the system to be completely enclosed which means it will be one of the quietest tunnels ever built.

 

How does it work?

Most people have the perception that a giant fan blows you from underneath. This is how many older versions work, however, SkyVentures' unique (patented) multiple overhead fan systems are far more efficient and create a “wall-to-wall” stable airflow through the flight chamber.  It is easier to think of it as a giant Vacuum!  The facility is sealed and the air re-circulates.

There are 2 x 450 horsepower electric fans set above the flight Chamber, this drives AiR through the system. At the narrowest part, (the cable tray) at the base of the flight chamber this is where the greatest velocity is, and where you will fly.

We have one Instructor with you in the flight chamber at all times and one at the controls managing the AiRspeed and general environment.      

 

Who can fly?

Anyone! (almost)
Bring the whole family or a group of your friends, this is a great experience to enjoy together.

We have NO height restrictions and children as young as 3 years old can fly with no upper age limit (we understand the record is 87 years old and if you are older we will fly you FREE!)

We do recommend you have a reasonable level of health and fitness and around 115kg is the weight limit. We advise against use by the usual groups; pregnant woman, recent surgery, heart, neck, back and shoulder troubles.

Privacy & Special FX
Where necessary and appropriate we will be able to provide private sessions where the lower part of the Flight chamber is screened from general public spectators. We will also have the use of green screen technology in the tunnel for use by the Film and Television industry.

 

Disabled
We welcome Guests with disabilities and we recommend you first discuss your needs with our Guest Services Co-ordinator, so we can plan and ensure your requirements are met and that we have the opportunity to deliver the best possible individually tailored experience.

 

Exceptions
We will not fly people who are intoxicated or those who have had previous shoulder dislocations. We also reserve the right to refuse to fly anyone we feel may be a danger to themselves, other Guest or our instructors. Safety is our absolute priority! SkyVenture wind tunnels have an impeccable safety record and AiRush intends to preserve that reputation.

 

Is it scary?
No. Bodyflight is not scary; there is no jumping, no falling and there is no experience needed, you are simply floating on a column of air. There is no sensation of falling or anything that would make you feel sick from motion sickness.

 

How long does it last?

It will last a lifetime in your memory. This is certainly one of those great opportunities to get a tick against a “Bucket List” experience… another “must do before you die” event!

We can promise the feeling of Bodyflight doesn’t leave you in a hurry! The entire experience lasts for about an hour and includes;

  • Registration and Flight Check-in
  • Meet and Greet your World Class AiRush Bodyflight Coach
  • Briefing for; safety, body position, entry and exit of the tunnel and hand signals.
  • Safety equipment and flight suit fitting.
  • Each group of 8 Guests will spend typically around 15-25 minutes in the flight chamber rotating and taking turns of 1 minute each. How many flights you have will depend on the ticket option you choose. (If there is time at the end of your session and before the next group enters you may be able to purchase extra flights, your AiRush Instructor will inform you if this is possible)
  • An AiRush Bodyflight Instructor demonstration of aerial acrobatics
  • Debrief, assessment and certificate presentation with your Photos and DVD’s (Note: photos and DVD’s are additional extra and will need to be ordered prior to flight)

    How much does it cost?

    As a beginner Flyer you have 3 ticket options;

     

  • TASTER TICKET; this is our basic ticket and includes the experience package described above with 2 x flights.     

    • $88
    $90  (Carbon Neutral)

     

  • TRI-FLIGHT; this option gives greater flexibility and time to get more enjoyment in the “AiRush”. You have the same great experience as above with 3x flights.                                            

    • $122 or    
    $ 125 (Carbon Neutral)

     

  • PRO-QUAD FLIGHT; this is our best value ticket and is the cheapest way for beginners to buy AiRtime. In your pro-quad flight experience we would expect you to become more confident as it will really give you chance to get to grips with some of the essential moves such as 360 degree spins left and right, forward and backward flight and also vertical movement in the tunnel. With this ticket you get 4x flights which is the equivalent of freefalling a total of over 55,000ft or 8 separate skydives. It is also the equivalent of freefalling from a height greater than Concorde flew. In addition, with this ticket we will also include your DVD and an AiRush T-shirt!  Been there… done that… got the T-Shirt!

    What happens after my first flight?

    AiRush is not a “ride” in the traditional sense… rides are just a cheep thrill with no skill required…with AiRush your experience changes and gets better every time you fly because your ability and technique improves. You develop essential muscle memory with every minute you spend in the AiRush and it is a very steep learning curve. Our World Class BodyFlight Instructors started out just the same as you, it is a skill that has to be learned, and is very addictive!

    We have training programmes, members club and special events for people wanting to take their skills to another level. Once you have completed your first experience and been assessed your AiRush Instructor is there to help you plan the next step, whether you want to become an international BodyFlight Coach or you just think AiRush is a much more fun way of staying fit than going to the gym like “normal” people...  Just ask… We love talking with people who love to fly!

    The best thing is, now you are no longer a beginner, your AiRush time is now much, much cheaper and can cost as little as $15 per flight

     

    Can I Skydive Now?       

    No! But you can do a Tandem Skydive (attached/harnessed to a trained and qualified Skydive Instructor) and you will now have a much better understanding of what to expect in freefall. We can and will be happy to arrange a Tandem Skydive or Skydive course for you at your nearest Drop Zone.

     

    I am a Skydiver and Experienced Flyer is this tunnel any good for me?

    Yes! This tunnel has ample power to freefly with AiRspeeds up to 170mph. The base of the flight chamber is an oval shape of 10’x 11’ but unlike the older tunnels this has a one piece acrylic flight chamber that defuses (gets wider) directly from the cable tray (base), so at 2.5m high you have an area greater than the typical 12ft chamber of tunnels such as Airkix UK, Orlando, Colorado, iFly SF Bay and Utah and increasingly wider as you go higher in addition because you have full view of Surfers Paradise for the entire height  of the 3 story flight chamber it will make AiRush a truly unique experience.

    As you guys know a wind tunnel is an awesome training facility and we will be offering Pro-flyer rates and discounted bulk tunnel time in 10, 15, 30 & 60 minute blocks with additional discounts available for off peak “through the night” sessions. Although we can’t confirm block prices at this stage we do expect to be less expensive than the US tunnels.

    We will also be running tunnel camps and individually tailored training programmes with world class coaches.
